Untuk menentukan punca persamaan kuadratik, kita menggunakan kaedah pemfaktoran (factorisation method), iaitu (x + p)(x + q) = 0 atau (mx + p)(nx + q) = 0.
Oleh kerana sesuatu persamaan kuadratik boleh difaktorkan sebagai hasil darab dua ungkapan linear (yang boleh disamakan dengan 0), maka persamaan itu selebih-lebihnya mempunyai dua punca.
Contoh 1
Selesaikan setiap yang berikut.
a) x2 = 7x
b) p2 − 6p − 7
= 0
